Interior design in Shanghai — the studio's home
Shanghai has been Montaigne Design's headquarters since 2011. The atelier, the joinery workshop, and most of the studio's twenty-five-year project archive live here. Our Shanghai practice covers hospitality, residential and cultural work — and supplies the craft network that delivers the studio's commissions in Dubai and across the wider region.

Shanghai — the brief
The Shanghai atelier is the studio's engine room. Joinery prototypes, material sampling, finish specification, lighting mock-ups — the physical work of resolving a room happens here before it ships to site. Our ten-person joinery workshop produces wardrobes, kitchens, vanities, panelling, and one-off furniture pieces to our designers' drawings.
Twenty-five years of building in China have given the studio a craft network that would take a decade to replicate in any other market. Stone yards in Fujian, brass foundries in Zhejiang, fabric houses in Jiangsu — these are relationships built across hundreds of projects, not sourced from a catalogue.
When a Dubai commission calls for a four-metre dining table in book-matched walnut, or a hammam clad in honed Carrara with heated brass fittings, the specification and prototyping happen in Shanghai. The finished pieces travel six hours by air. The quality travels intact.
